But

As we make our way through this text and wrap up our series in Jonah, we will see the repeated question in verses 8 and 9 and the Gospel answer in verses 10 and 11.

Jonah 4:8-11

Appointed

We will see how God appointed a plant (6), how God appointed a worm (7), and how God appointed a wind (8) for Jonah in another example of Him extending His grace, love, mercy, and compassion to our sulking servant of the Lord.

Jonah 4:5-8

Displeased

As we make our way through this text, we will see Jonah’s anger in verse 1, Jonah’s admission in verses 2-3, and God’s accusation in verse 4 before we watch Jonah leave Nineveh sulking in the shade...for now.

Jonah 4:1-5

Relented

As we study this text, we will see what God saw in the first half of verse 10 and then see how He responded in the second half of verse 10, and then ask ourselves, Is this a contradiction? and Why does that matter?

Jonah 3:10

Believed

As we work our way through this text, we will see the response of the people in verse 5, the response of the king in verses 6 through 8a, and the hope for the relenting of God in verses 8b through 9.

Jonah 3:5-9

So

As we make our way through our passage, we will see the Lord’s word to the fish in Jonah 2:10, the Lord’s word to Jonah in Jonah 3:1-2, and Jonah’s word to Nineveh in Jonah 3:3-4.

Jonah 2:10-3:4

Swallowed

As we work our way through our text, we will see The Discipline of Grace in Jonah 1:17, followed by The Grace of Repentance from Jonah 2:1-9, and we will conclude with the greatest theme of Scripture, Jonah’s conclusion of his prayer which caps off verse 9: Salvation Belongs to the Lord.

Jonah 1:17-2:9

Tossed

As we make our way through this text, we will cover a lot of ground as we see God’s sovereignty over wind, in verses 4 through 6, God’s sovereignty over lots, in verses 7 through 10, and God’s sovereignty over man in verses 11 through 16.

Jonah 1:4-16

But.

As we look at these verses, we will discover that God says, Go in verses 1 and 2, Jonah says, No in verse 3, and the antithesis of Jesus Christ on both accounts, as His life is the ultimate Yes of all time.
